San Remo Restaurant, Victoria, BC

Dino Petropoulus, the creator and owner of San Remo Restaurant is a true Greek and a born restaurateur.

Raised in the small village of Dracobouni in the Peloponnesian prefecture of Arcadia, 50 miles from the ancient city of Olympia, he grew up in the midst of mountainous land of rivers, running streams, deep gorges, Frankish forts, Byzantine churches and monasteries, traditional villages and ancient cities. There he learned the essentials of Greek and Mediterranean cooking – flavour, freshness, presentation, and above all PLEASURE.

In 1972 Dino came to Canada, first living (and cooking) in Vancouver and then building restaurants across BC from Prince George to Vancouver – proving that he knows the business from the ground up.

Moving to Victoria in 1978, he developed the first of his two Victoria restaurants – San Remo. In the early 80’s, it was not uncommon to find a line-up stretching down and around the block as people waited for a table at this local eatery. San Remo continues its success because it's the best place for authentic Greek cuisine.

“Restaurants are in my blood,” says Dino. “If you know food, enjoy wine and love people, what better role in life is there.”
